February 28, 2012:
With March knocking on the door, the fishing has really started to heat up on the flats. Big schools of redfish are conjugating in the one to four foot range, and are erupting on a variety of lures and flies!! Stalking up on these schools and then making the perfect cast is a thrill and quite rewarding to say the least. When the conditions are right in March and April (light to no wind and clear blue skies), you can have a trip of a lifetime! That being said, these are usually our windiest months of the year. When the winds are up and sight-fishing is out of the question, live and cut mullet and pin fish do the trick! Also, the dock fishing has been on fire and is always an option on a windy day. Our clients have been pulling some heavy sheepshead and juvenile black drum from underneath wind protected docks! It’s a ton of fun with a lot of action!
